November 21, 1945 MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT Subject: The Palestine Commission For appointment to this Commission I suggest: (1) John W. Davis (2) Judge Learned Hand (3) Frank Aydelotte, former President of Swathmore College and Director of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. He is American Secretary of the Rhodes Trust and is a former Rhodes scholar. (4) Mr. Charles E. Hughes, Jr., son of the former Chief Justice, now practicing law in New York City and formerly Solicitor General of the United States. (5) Mark Ethridge, Publisher of the Louisville Courier, now on a tour of the Balkans. (6) Brank II. Buxton, Editor of the Boston Herald. (7) Harold W. Dodds, President of Princeton University. Even though he recently declined to serve on the Greek Electoral Commission, it is believed his experience as Adviser to a number of foreign governments and his standing in the academic world make him well qualified to serve on this Commission. (8) James P. Baxter, 3rd, President of Williams College, who is well known as one of the organizers of the Office of Strategic Services in its early days. (9) Judge Charles E. Clark, former Dean of Yale Law School and author of many works on legal subjects. He is now Judge of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, New York City. NATIONAL AND TEAM
