STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT
As I pointed out last week, the American Government is
not being represented at the present conversations in London
relative to the future of Palestine. We are, however, deeply
interested in the outcome of these conversations and hope that
they will point the way to a settlement which may bring peace
and prosperity to the people of Palestine. We also hope that
before the conversations are concluded, representatives of the
Jews, as well as of the Palestinian Arabs, may find it possible

In this regard, I am sure that the work of the Anglo-
American Committee of Inquiry, under the chairmanship of Judge
Joseph C. Hutcheson, Jr., and of the British and American group
in which the alternates of the Cabinet Committee on Palestine
and Related Problems participated under the chairmanship of
Ambassador Henry F. Grady, will prove of real assistance to
those who are now endeavoring to work out an equitable solution
to the problem. I have already made it clear that this Govern-
ment has not put forward any concrete proposals in connection
with the present conversations, nor is it committed to any
