DEPARTMENT OF STATE
WASHINGTON
February 27, 1951
MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Letter from the King of Saudi Arabia.
Transmitted is the reply of King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia to
your letter of October 31, 1950, which renewed expressions of friend-
ship and assurances of United States interest in the security of
Saudi Arabia.
Ambassador Hare has reported that your letter was very favorably
received by His Majesty. The Saudi Arabian Government was particularly
appreciative of permission to make the letter public, but has indicated
that it does not intend to do so at this time.
It is noted that in thanking you for the assurances given that
"No threat to your Kingdom could occur which would not be a matter of
immediate concern to the United States," the words "to prevent aggres-
sion or threat thereof" were added in the King's reply.
