ELIEF
desiring merely peace, a home, a country, once more wander, - as
displaced persons - really slave laborers for the puny Austrian
peasants - their conquerors.
We Americans promised, as did our allies, the Four Freedoms. We
Americans believed in this promise and today Europe - as we see
it - is but the spawning ground for another war.
We wish to thank you for your heroic words. We wish to thank you
for daring to tell the American people and the world at large the
sad truth. There is no peace in Europe. Russia doesn't want it.
Russia wishes chaos. Russia wishes the cold and hunger that wrecked
the lives of millions, and you know, dear Mr. President, as well
as we do what lies ahead for Europe during the tragic winter that
we are soon to see.
We hope that your words of warning will be repeated over and over
again so that America will be conscious of the menace threatening
them now, and in the near future. Having had the pleasure of meet-
ing you when you were senator, in the home of Joseph E. Davies, I
send you my kindest regards.
Respectfully,
MB:jp
