MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Yugoslavia
Dr. Ivan Subasic, the Minister for Foreign Affairs
of Yugoslavia, is arriving in Washington today from San
Francisco, en route to Belgrade. He has informed the
Secretary that Marshal Tito has asked him to return ur-
gently to his country, and has requested that he be
given an opportunity to call at the White House to pay
his respects if you so desire to discuss briefly
Yugoslavian affairs.
I think that it would be useful in our relations
with Yugoslavia if you could arrange to receive
Dr. Subasic. He expects to stay in Washington a few
days, and the interview could therefore take place at
the beginning of next week, if agreeable.
Attached hereto is a memorandum discussing two
problems which you may wish to have in mind in this
connection.
