"TRUMAN'S STATEMENT AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE-- A NEW WAR HYSTERIA"
"On 30 November Truman made an official declaration in connection with
the latest events in Korea which not only repeated former statements to the
effect that the U.S. Government does not intend to renounce its mission in
Korea, but promised still greater expansion of the American Army and continued
imperialist maneuvers in Korea and with regard to China.
"In this statement Truman gave a detailed account about his intention to
hold peace negotiations, but his insincerity is obvious.
"Everyone knows that all the proposals made by the Democratic Korean
Government and the Chinese People's Government are aimed at a peaceful solution
of the Korean question. Why did Truman decline the peaceful proposals made by
the Koreans and the Chinese if he really wanted peace?
"Truman accuses the Koreans and the Chinese of 'aggression.' This can
only provoke a smile. Did the Koreans or the Chinese attack the United States?
Are not the troops which are now in Korea and in Formosa U.S. troops?
"Then who is the aggressor if not Truman and his friends MacArthur, Harriman,
and others?
"Should not China, which borders Korea, have the right to defend its
frontiers, if the United States--which is 5,000 miles from Korea--has the right
to 'defend its security' at that distance from its frontiers?
"Where is logic, where is justice, and who but a madman could believe in
the peaceful intentions of Truman and his friends? Truman needs war, not peace,
and that is why he is indulging in this new war hysteria."
