1. Weather: Rain and visibility poor but weather reportedly improving.
2. Soviet Participation: None reported, but DX USAF believes there
is
a possibility of Soviet pilots® flying reported Yak 9's, 11's, 13's and 15's
over combat area.
3. Operations: As of 0600Z/29 South Korean Forces reportedly hold
line Han River south bank and in general through Kapyong, Chunchon, and
inland from North Korean-held coastal strip from Kangnung to Samchok
Press reports of Northern crossing Han River 16 miles west of Seoul uncon-
firmed. Landings of 5,000 North Koreans reported in Chunjin-Kangnung area
with heaviest landings in vicinity Muko Naval Base and north of Pohang. (G-2)
South Korean morale both military and civilian currently reported
by FECOM as difficult to evaluate but over-all as fair. South Korean military
casualties reportedly 50 percent with approximately 20 percent remainder
without arms. (G-2)
General Church ADCOM endeavoring restore South Korean supply
system which apparently broke down completely. (G-2)
General MacArthur has arrived in Korea to get first hand information.
NAVY
Task Force 77 with U.S. Carrier VALLEY FORGE is enroute to Buckner
Bay, Okinawa, ETA 10002/30. The British Naval vessels BELFAST (CL)
JAMAICA (CL) and COSSACK (DD) are to rendezvous with British vessels
TRIUMPH (CVL) and CONSORT (DD) at 0800Z/29 and proceed to Buckner Bay
and join U.S. Naval Forces. The British vessels BLACK SWAN (PG)
ALACRITY (PG) and HART (PG) have been instructed to follow.
Most South Korean Naval vessels are engaged in preventing landings on
least coast between 36 and 38 parallels.
U.S. ships JUNEAU (CLAA) and DE HAVEN (DD) are reconnoitering
east coast Korea and scheduled to bombard Kangnun-Samchok area on 29th.
The MANSFIELD (DD) is operating west coast Korea. The SWENSON (DD)
is now enroute to join MANSFIELD, The COLLETTE (DD) is escorting the
ammunition ship to Pusan. (ONI)
