*1. Weather: Scattered low overcasts and restricted visibility
west and south coasts throughout period. Generally fair on east coast.
Forecast for 5 July(KT): 1,000 feet overcast, with restricted visibility
on west and south coasts, northeast coast ceiling of 8,000 feet, lowering
to 1,000 with restricted visibility by end of day.
2. Soviet participation:
#a. Interrogation of a captured North Korean naval officer re-
vealed that many Soviet naval advisors are at Wonsan. (FECOM)(SECRET)
b. The previous report of "Soviet jet over Suwon is believed
by FEAF to be erroneous. Comment: This presumably refers to the
four Soviet jets" reported in para 3k of yesterday's Joint Daily Summary
No. 6. (SECRET)
C. Interrogation of two North Korean pilots, identified by South
Korean Police as Chinese, who were shot down south of Suwon on 29 June
confirms, according to FEAF, earlier reports that a Soviet colonel is
commanding the North Korean air unit operating from Pyongyang. (FEAF)

d. Two non-Asiatics in Soviet uniform reportedly were observed
on 28 June in tanks on way to the Han River. (CIA) (SECRET)
e. A Caucasian in a Soviet officer's uniform has been reported
as momentarily emerging from a North Korean tank as it was passing
through Tongduchonni, north of Seoul, on 27 June. (FEAF) (SECRET)
3. Operations:
#a. Utilizing all available trails in a zone of action lying between
the Seoul-Suwon-Osan main artery and a line from Chunchon to Wonju,
