There has been a decided increase in enemy guerrilla activity.
Twenty-five guerrilla groups are infiltrating southwards, and have been
reported north and south of Yongchon, and in the vicinity of Pusan, Chinju,
Kochang and in areas in South Kyonsong province. (FECOM) North
Korean prisoners report that on 17 July a North Korean Infantry battalion
was broken up into 25 groups, each consisting of one officer and 20
enlisted men, armed with Japanese rifles. These groups infiltrated south-
ward through the mountains on missions known only to the officer

Elements of the 15th North Korean Division made a tank led
attack on Ochon. What was believed to be a regiment of the 5th North
Korean division was engaged by elements of the 8th ROK Division
southwest of Yongju. (FECOM) (SECRET)

g. The 19th RCT relieved by elements of the 1st Cavalry Division
is now 5 miles north of Kumchon, the CP of the 24th Division; the 34th RCT,
also relieved, is 3 miles east of Kumchon. When relieved by the 1st
Cavalry Division the 21st RCT will concentrate south of Kumchon. (FECOM)

relieve the 1st ROK Corps. The 24th RCT is moving to a position 10 miles

The 1st Cavalry Division with CP at Kumchon left one Battalion
of the 7th RCT in the vicinity of Pohang to relieve the 1st Battalion of the
