1. Weather:
Weather generally good throughout the period. Forecast: No
appreciable change.
2. Soviet Participation:
Negative.
3. Operations:
ENEMY SITUATION
a In the west coast area the enveloping movement of the 4th
North Korean Division turned eastward, supported by elements, tentatively
identified as the 6th North Korean Division. North Korean forces are
driving south from Namwon through Kurye and occupy Hadong. An esti-
mated enemy battalion occupies Polygo, Sunchon and Kwangyang and a col-
umn is pushing south toward Yosu. An undetermined number of North
Korean tanks are reported at Kwangju. (FECOM) (SECRET)
b. In the Yongdong area, infantry and artillery of the 3d North
Korean Division occupied Yongdong and forced the withdrawal of friendly
troops to positions astride road and railroad west of Kari. The attack
against friendly positions continues in this area. An estimated 1,000 North
Korean troops were observed marching eastward south of Yongdong. A
pilot reports a large concentration of North Korean troops in the vicinity
of Muju moving towards Sanwon. The 2₫ North Korean Division's offensive
in the Yongsan-Chongsan area forced the withdrawal of friendly troops to
an area north and south of Hourn. An estimated 1,000 North Korean troops,
supported by tanks, were observed in Chongsan. A heavy enemy offensive
supported by artillery was reported in the vicinity of Kidae (FECOM)
(SECRET)
C. In the Hamchang-Yongju area, the 15th North Korean Division
continued to exert steady pressure in the vicinity of Ponghwang mountain.
An estimated enemy battalion was reported engaged by friendly forces in
the vicinity of Sahyon. The 1st North Korean Division attacked Chigong but
