Washington, D. C. June 17, 1945 9:15am An unidentified man who took the collection at church today contacted HENRY. (This unidentified man is probably JIMMY, not TOMMY, CORCORAN although it was not possible to positively identify him. The unidentified man will be referred to throughout the balance of this conversation as being JIMMY.) JIMMY said he went to the Preakness yesterday but lost on Hoops. They agreed Hoops should have won. JIMMY asked, "What do you hear from REM (Phon.). HENRY replied, "Friend of BARKLEY'S. JIMMY said, "BARKLEY was out there, I saw him. JOE GUFFEY and BARKLEY." JIMMY said, "You know that dinner I was telling you about that I was supposed to go to Thursday? The 'Commish' was there. You know, TURNAGE (NEEDHAM TURNAGE, U. S. Commissioner). He had one of the gals on his lap. She sang two songs for everybody. One of the DUNCAN sisters, and they wanted to put one on EDGAR'S lap and he ran out the door. HENRY said, "I'll bet he did." JIMMY said, "The General was there and he sang a song. Real Guy." HENRY said, "oh, nice fellow" JIMMY said, "What do you hear on REM (Phon.) 2" HENRY said, "I haven't heard a thing; he hasn't called me." JIMMY said, "will you hear at five Thursday?" HENRY said, "Yeah, but he hasn't called me so I'll just let him call me." JIMMY said, "Have you got all your bills changed?" HENRY said, "Aw sure. Ch-_'s sakes! Month's ago. You?" JIMMY said, "Yeah." HENRY said, "I catch you short?" JIMMY said, "No, I got Thursday's (Phon.)." HENRY said, "Ah, yes. I got A guy sent me a copy of that gravure out there. He got his picture in the paper and he looks very good there." JIMMY said, "Yeah?" HENRY said, "I was up there with BURT (Phon.) yesterday - also with McCARTHY (Phon.). He's had some trip - that BURT had had." JIMMY said, "All through Europe, huh?" HENRY said, "oh yeah. He had a wonderful talk - audience with the POPE. He's a wee bit scared about that Communist thing." J--What? H--He's very much scared about this Communist thing. J--Who, the POPE? H--Yeah. J--What did you get for Father's Day? H--Nothing. What did you get? J--I got a gold pin HENRY then said that there is quite an investigation going on in town on the gambling situation. JIMMY asked what JOE is doing. HENRY said he thinks he is "laying low." HENRY said that KELLY raised h with JOE because he was told that JOE was working against him and JOE is hooked up with the counter- part - with SMITH and TRACKET (Phon.). JIMMY said he knows
