    "ocrText": "- 2 -\n11:47am CORCORAN to Mrs. BEHAN, asking her to get a letter from his brief\ncase in the safe to CORCORAN from DONOVAN, LEGER & LOMBARD (?)\nand give it to THURMAN ARNOLD who, Mrs. BEHAN said, was in the\noffice with another person, and ask JIM (BRENNAN?) to come to\nWORTH CLARK's office where TOM is with the letter. TOM said he\njust came from the hospital. Mrs. BEHAN told CORCORAN that TOM\nhad received a call from (JAMES P. (?)) McGRANERY, who is at\nMARGATE CITY, N.J. 2-0296. She told CORCORAN that McGRANERY will\nbe at that number only until noon and he will wait there for\nCORCORAN to contact him. Mrs. BEHAN also said: \"Mrs., ah, KATE\nFOLEY'S boss wants you to call her, call him on his private line.\"\nCORCORAN asked Mrs. BEHAN the number and Mrs. BEHAN said it was\nNAtional 1279. (Private phone in office of Secretary of Navy\nFORRESTAL). CORCORAN said O.K.\n12:25pm WORTH CLARK's office to Mrs. BEHAN, telling her that CORCORAN\nleft CLARK's office, is going to see Mr. LEAHY and soon will come\nto his own office.\n12:30pm HUGH COX to CORCORAN, who is not in. Mrs. BEHAN said CORCORAN\nwould contact COX.\n1:00pm\nMrs. BEHAN to NYC Operator #49 who reached Mr. ERNEST CUNEO (Phon.)\nat Plaza 3-1940 for TOM CORCORAN. TOM said he was sorry he was\nlate contacting CUNEO this morning and then added: \"You saw\nwhat happened -- FRED VINSON went in and BEN (COHEN) has gone.'\nERNIE asked who else was going on BEN's trip and TOM said he\nbelieved only \"JIMMY (BYRNES) and the top boss\" and a bunch of\nexperts. TOM said BEN left last night but he didn't know whether\nhe was flying or not. TOM said then, in reference to the MORGEN-\nTHAU resignation, that: \"What happened on this thing was just\nwhat the TIMES-HERALD said yesterday, namely MORGENTHAU went to\nthe President and said he couldn't stand all this atmosphere\nthat he wanted the President to deny these stories about a change\nin the Treasury. TRUMAN said he'd deny them in a Press conference\nand MORGENTHAU then asked for something in writing 'the way you\ngave it to SAM ROSENMAN' that 'I'm to stay until V-J day.' The\nPresident wouldn't accept this, saying he wanted him to stay but\ndidn't want his hands tied indefinitely. HENRY said, 'Either\nthat or I resign. 111 ERNIE asked who would go up on the bench and\nTOM said that BURTON, the Republican Senator from Ohio, would.\nHe was one of the B2H2 (Senators BALL, BURTON, HATCH and HICKEN-\nLOOPER ?) fellows. AUSTIN, Republican Senator from Vermont, on\nthe Foreign Relations Committee, is also mentioned, said TOM. It\nwill most certainly be a Republican, said TOM. FRANCIS (BIDDLE)\nand THURMAN ARNOLD are mentioned on the Democratic side. RANDOLPH\nhas not been mentioned, TOM said. CUNEO and TOM agree BIDDLE\ndoesn't have a chance.
