Washington, D. C. CO - SUMMARY September 28, 1945 9:30 AM TOM CORCORAN told Senator ROBERT LA FOLLETTE that he listened to an NBC broadcast this morning and it was announced that the British are celebrating "this Leo thing" (resignation of LEO CROWLEY) and stating that CROWLEY was the cause of their not getting what they want and that now the desired loans will come through O.K. CORCORAN suggested that LA FOLLETTE get some newspaper reporter "to pick up" the "stuff" out of these broadcasts (English celebration over CROWLEY resigning) so that an issue can be made. O.K. 9:40 AM TOM CORCORAN to JOSEPH PANUCH (O.W.M.R., RE 7500, Extension 5131). CORCORAN said he saw SONNETT again last night and "gave him the thing on your Major." He said JOE and GEORGE (KILLIOM ?) had passed it through to TOM CLARK. CORCORAN said he would have "your Major" call up SONNETT and ask him for an appointment today and say he was sent over by KILLIOM. CORCORAN continued: "In the meantime this KILLIOM personal thing is terrifically important. The kid went out of here last night to go back to his base." He asked PANUCH if they could do anything on that or if they should try to bring somebody else in. PANUCH thought they should bring in somebody else if they want to get something done right away. He said he is "in a box on the thing, as you know." TC - Well, you're not if you make this delivery. JP - That's right. TC - Well, I think the delivery is made. That's why I want you to move on it. JP - O.K. TC - You can tell him the delivery is made. I'll personally guarantee the delivery if you can start moving for GEORGE (KILLIOM) now. JP - I've got to get a little more dope and, of course - TC - What more dope do you want? JP - I want to get this guy's serial specialty number. Each of these kids is categorized with a specialty in which he's supposed to be good and that would determine his transfer, see. In other words, if there's a base near Palo Alto where he could be used in this specialty that would be one of the arguments used on the paper work, see. That's an extremely important thing to have. TC - Well, I'll get his serial specialty number. Now, here, you can tell your friend "Whoosiz" that you have delivered on this. You can actually have him call up SONNETT this afternoon and ask the guy to come over and I'll get this serial specialty number right away, but I'm desperate, I wouldn't want to let GEORGE down, and I think frankly the way you are proposing to do is the most effective way to do it. I can go upstairs but I hate to get GEORGE involved. JP - Yeah. I'll push it. There's a mechanical problem. This guy's moving his offices and they're disrupted over there but I'll try to push it. TC - JOE, it's worth going over and seeing him and finding him. Now, did you see BOB? JP - No, I just went over for the swearing and shook hands with him.
