RECORDO
Mr. Chairman, distinguished guests and fellow Democrats:
We are gathered here this evening for two main purposes.
First, to pay homage on his birthday to the Father of Democracy --
Thomas Jefferson. Second, to reaffirm our faith in democratic ideals.
The Democratic Party has always been the champion of all
the people. In contrast, the Republican Party usually represents the
privileged and the few. L Our Party has to depend primarily upon the
donations of the rank and file. during the last general election,
for every dollar the Democrats raised, our Republican opponents spent
two. Fortunately, democratic victories are won on the basis of principles
and performance, and not merely money and wealth!
The two party system is the very essence of American democracy.
To permit our constitutional government to operate effectively, we must
support the Party of our choice, and in America, thank God, we still have
a free choice!
In the conduct of this war, there lias been most commendable
cooperation between members of every political faith. All realized that
unless we win this war, there will be only one party in America - and
that dictated by our enemies. (in the fight for real democracy, all must
stand up and be counted.
