In its gallant and successful struggle to gain a foothold in the Salerno area of Italy, the U. S. 5th Army - cooperating with Allied air and sea power -- gave living evidence of the teamwork which has given Lieut. General Mark Clark's command a place of equal honor to that of the American 7th Army and the British 8th Army.
