It is a special pleasure to be here in Detroit
on Labor Day. Your city is one of the great arsenals of
democracy.
Here labor astounded the entire world by breaking
ALL RECORDS OF PRODUCTION and forging, ahead of schedule,
the weapons which we need to crush the enemies of democracy.
Labor has made a flagnificient contribution to the war effort,
and I am sure that it will make similar contributions to the
peace effort.
Compare our military position one year ago with
our that of
today. Then the gigantic progress that has been
made stands out so all can see it.
Despite much unfair
criticism, labor has done what was once considered imposs ible.
in backing the attack of the fighting then
By your all-out effort, 1 victory over the forces of evil is fast
approaching.
