TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
6-13

Dear Sir:
I have been employed at the Dodge Chrysler Plant beginning
my fifteenth month. I've had Government training course in bench
assembling 105 hours--Drill Press work. 25 hour--machine screws
But was refused 2. job as skile laborer. S. I excepted the jointerest
job after reading a statement thay was showed to me on the day
I was hired, Saywithin six months it woyld be a chance for an
upgrade. After reading an add in the paper Oct. 18th where skile
labor was needed. I was snet to Labor Control of Dodge Plant
by the head of Supervisers out department for a job in Skile
labor but was refused, when I asked why they run the add in the paper
and refused to give me skile labor. I was todd that they was
only running the add for publicity. If I was unsatisfied at
jointerest work I coyld take my papers and go some where else.
That the Government traning courses meant nothing to them. I
have had contact with Mr. Harry H. Gibson since Dec. of the Fair
Employment Practice. I'm sending you 27 letter that was received
from him in March. I called him by phone to talk with him, So.
he promised to look into my case, But heard no more from him until
one month later. I called and talked to Mr. Henderson of the
Fair Employment Practice, and he had Mr. Gibson come to the phone
S. Two days later Mr. Gibson came by and talked with me. And I
heard no more from him until I had and orginization to call the
Fair Employment Practice for me. There's about (200) jointerist
at the Chrysler Plant which was all colored except two, until
about four Months ago, and all the women know there sisdiscrem-
ination. We. have tried to get Mr. Gibson to speak to the
company about our upgrades that had been promised for six momths
and also Mr. Henderson. But for some reason they have failed to
come to our request. We. have even had right-ups in the papers
about hem refusing to upgrade the Negro jointerest. I visited the
Labor Control in Dodge Plant on April 19th, But was refused the
second time. I have been told by the Foreman in the section I
worked, that they had an opening for several girls, but the Negro
jointerest was refused while whites was brough from the outside
and was given the job. Ioworkede in Dept. 721 for five months
from Post 27 to 33 and during that time there was only one colored
girl hired in that department. But many whites was hired.
They
have a. Senioritym list they are supposed to transferdd by us.
But the Seniority list had failed to be followed by the rules
.
Roosevelt Stringfellow began the 4-18-44, and McKinly Williams
began 6-26-44 and have been transfered and still there is many
not transfered that's been employed there longer than I have.
Letters and paper clipping is to prove my statement. I also
have my cards from Labor Control and I receive a booklet from
Chrysler stating that they needed three thousand more workers
and that's why I asked for a. job as skile labor. I am asking you
as our Commandering Chief of the United States to please come to
our rescue, or tell us what Government Official in the City can
helpius. I have only been absent for 14 days.
This proves
that why we need the Fair Employment practice law that
