IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 9, 1945 The President has sent the following letter to the Honorable Guy M. Gillette, accepting his resignation as a member of the Surplus Property Board: 'June 8, 1945 Dear Guy: As you know, I am very regretfully accepting your resignation of May 25, 1945 to take effect on July 15, 1945. I am sorry indeed to see you go, but I agrée with you that as long as you have made up your mind to leave it would be perhaps better to have your successor appointed before the work of the Board becomes heavier. I have adoptod your suggos- tion about appointing your succossor at this time in order to give him an opportunity to acquaint himsolf fully vith the duties of the Board. I am grateful to you for tho servicos you have rendered in this proliminary stage, and, of course, shall always look back upon our personal association with much pleasure. With all best wishes for your future success and happiness. Very sincerely yours, NARA HARRY S. TRUMAN" : Following is tho text of Mr. Gilletto's letter to the President: "May 25, 1945 My dear Mr. Prosident: I hereby tender my resignation as a Member of the Surplus Property Board, effective July 15, 1945, or at an earlier or later date near that time if another date would more nearly accord with your will and pleasure. I am mindful of your expressed wish that in the public interest members of your executive organizations should remain at their posts after V-E Day and, if possible, until the complete termination of war activities. But, I also havo in mind that the work of the Surplus Property Board will become progrossively heavier as the war nears its close and will probably roach the peak of its responsibility after the war's termination. It would seem to be in the national interest, then, that before tho dutios become too onerous, the Board Members have as much opportunity as time affords to prepare for this peak burden. It would greatly advantago my successor to have this early opportunity to acquaint himself with the duties pertaining to Board mombership. (OVER)
