MRS. TRUMAN:
There was originally on the list the names of
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Johnston. Mr. Simmons, on
second thought, felt that if the Johnstons
were invited that a number of other people,
who are in what I believe is called Defense
Production, should also be asked. Possibly
you and the President might want to ask the
Johnstons anyway.
Mr. Simmons also suggested General and lifs.
Marshall, whose names I have added to the
list.
I talked over the question of asking Mrs.
Elphinstone and Lieut. Parker. Ir. Simmons
made some inquiries and apparently it is
expected that as they are staying at Blair
House that they should attend that private
luncheon. Your original list, as you remem-
ber, included them, the Snyders, the Lovetts
and the Webbs but as we had this "hint" from
the British Ambassador that he thought the
Princess would like to be alone at that
luncheon, I imagine the Lady-in-Waiting and
Lieut. Parker are expected. No arrange-
ments seem to have been made for then to
lunch out that day.
Mr. Simmons tells me the Snyders, the Lovetts
