c. Altornative III - At an objective area on the southern coast,
amphibious landing of two infantry companics after dark to scize
kcy areas; during the night, land remainder of Task Forco; shipping
then departs area prior to daylight; aircraft initiato air operations
from the airstrips the following day. Sec Appendix C horeto for
detailo and ovaluation.
3. The conclusions of the evaluation of the military aspects of the
threc alternative concepts are as follows:
a. Alternative I- Vithout the psychological impact of the original
concept, together with the difficulties of landing at night in thio area
and the lack of ability to initiate air operations, the ultimato success
of Alternative is doubtful.
b. Alternative II - Even though the Cuban Voluntocr Forco could
be landed and sustained for a minimum of 3 days, the dictance from
the seat of government, together with the problem of continuous
resupply over long distancos, causes this course of action to bc leact
likely to accomplish the objective.
c. Alternative III has all the prorequisites necessary to succocsfully
establich the Cuban Voluntary Task Force, including air clements,
in the objective area and suctain itsclf with outhide logiotic support
for several wocks; however, inaccossibility of the area may limit
the support anticipated from the Cuban populace.
d. Of the alternative concepts, Alternative III io considored the
most fcasible and the most likely to accomplish the objective.
e. None of the alternative concepto are considerod as feanible
and likely to accomplish the objectivo as tho basic para-military plan.
4. It in recommended that:
a. The Sccretary of Defense support the vievs of the Joint Chicfo
of Staff as cupressed in the above conclusione.
