    "ocrText": "December 11, 1963\nKr. j. E. Curry\nChief of Police\nSubject:\nInterview with Mr. Darwin Payne,\nReporter for Dallas Times Herald\nSir:\nOn December 10, 1963, Lisutenant F. I. Cornwall and Lieutenant\nJack Revill interviewed Hr. Darwin Payne in regards to an\narticle that was written by him and printed in the Dallas\nTimes Herald, December 8, 1963. Mr. Payne stated that on\nSaturday, December 7, 1963, at about 1:30 p.m. he called\nSergeant P. T. Dean at home and told him that he was as-\nsigned to verify an article written by Mr. David hughes\nand published in the Times Herald shortly after the shooting\nof Lee Harvey Oswald.\nMr. Payne said that he then road the article written by\nMr. David Hughes to Sergeant Dean (copy of these notes\nare attached to the interview of David Hughes) and asked\nhim if this was about the way it was or if there were any\nchanges he would like to make. Sergeant Dean advised him\nthat he did not have any changes to make from the original\ninterview given Mr. Hughes. The article written by Nr.\nPayne which appeared in the Dallas Times Herald on\nDecember 8, 1963, states *Officer says he saw Ruby\". In\nregard to this statement I asked Mr. Payne if Sergeant\nDean had made this statement; that he had seen Jack Ruby\ncome down the North rump and Mr. Payne replied that Sergeant\nDean did not say this but that he meraly verified what had\nbeen written in the first article.\nWhen asked how this mistake was made, Mr. Payne stated that\nit was probably done by the rewrite man.\nAt the time of this interview, Mr. Payne said he had been\nquestioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.\nRespectfully submitted,\nT.D Commune\nF.
