Nevember 30, 1965 Mr. J. E. Gurry Chief of Polies Sir: Sometime around 11:00 A. K. on November 24, 1963 Captain Frank Martin sane into the Juvenile Bareau and asked that Detectives Levery, Goolshy, Miller, Cutchshav, Narrison and ayself follow hia to the Oity Hall basement. Ve did no. The bascmont was erovied with effieers, Revspaper, radio and television people. We procecded so the area just outside the basenent doer that adjoims the parking area. We reported to Captain 0. A. Jones who assigned the Detectives where he wanted them. Shortly after our arrival an arnored ear backed partially on to the basement remy on the Commoree Strest side. mief Datshelev, Sezgeant P. T. Dean and ayself procected se seareh the asmored ear. Nothing vas found. I instructed officers on the Strest emit not to let anyone in or out of the bassment until we advised then othervise. Sergeant Dean and Chief Batchelor then left no with the arnored ear. Sergeant Dean returned and said hie bess told him to ride inside the truck with the prisones. Shortly aftervards an unsarked police ear drove on to the reap from the basement ares. This sar parked near the jail door entranse on the rany. I was avare from the excitement of the erové that Lee Osvald vas in sight but sould not see anything for the police ear betveen us. Next a shot was heard. 1 ran down, yelling to the officers not to let anyone out of the basement I was advised by somsene that Jack Ruby had shot Osvald. In a very short time an ambulance same and renoved Osvald. Just prior to my taking ay position ea the amored ear, I had looked over the erovd carefully that was gathered near the door. I have known Jack Ruby for years but did not see him at that time. This observation made approximately sen minutes before the shooting. Respoctfully, Geerge Butier Jevenile 13
