    "ocrText": "CALL FOR PAPE] Val-\nPleeve mail to\nBob hopeir at hours.\nWHO BUILT WASHINGT\nA Symposium on the Historic Developme\nWashington, D.C.\nMay\nThe Latrobe Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians is seeking papers on the architects,\nengineers, planners, developers, policy makers, and others who helped create the built\nenvironment of the Washington metropolitan area. We also encourage papers on government\nagencies and programs that equally shaped the form of the metropolitan region. Papers may\ncover the entire history of the region--from before the establishment of the national capital to the\npresent. The purpose of the symposium is to feature recent research in a format that encourages\ncomment and discussion.\nThe symposium will be held in Washington at the National Building Museum on Friday evening\nand Saturday, March 7 and 8, 1997.\nPapers must be analytical rather than descriptive in nature and will be grouped to provide\nsubstantive comparative discussion among the presenters, moderators, and the audience. We are\nlooking for papers that place the contributions of the \"builders\" in a comparative context of\npolitical, social, economic, and cultural forces. Abstracts will be provided at the symposium. We\nshall be seeking opportunities to publish some or all of the papers.\nPlease send a concise but detailed 250-word abstract of a 20-minute paper, and your curriculum\nvitae, postmarked by July 31, 1996 to:\nNancy Witherell\nLatrobe Chapter, SAH\n624 Maryland Avenue, NE\nWashington, DC 20002\nAll applicants will be notified of the selection by September 16, 1996. February 1, 1997 is the\nfirm deadline for the completed text.
