Bathed & dressed. 9:51 With Helene, Carol Carlyle, and Phyllis Russo, to the State Department for swearing-in of Tyler Abell as Chief of Protocol. 10:26 Returned to the White House -- Second Floor. 10:40 Met with Nash and Mary Lasker in the Lincoln Sitting Room re new Beautification stamp. 11:05 Were joined by Mrs. Brizendine (P.O. Dep't) re stamp. 11:30 Mrs. Brizendine, Nash, and Mary Lasker left. 12:01 To the President's office for pictures with him, and Mayor & Mrs. Alioto of San Francisco. 12:15 To the East Room with the President for signing of the Lower Colorado River Bill. 12:30 (tj to the Second Floor. Lunch on tray in room. 1:30 To the President's office with Lynda. 1:37 Left the White House with the President, Lynda, Warrie Lynn, and Tom Johnson (Luci left separately w/Melinda Bates) for the funeral of Leroy Bates at Arlington Cemetery. 3:00 Returned to the White House -- Second Floor.
