Telecon David Rockefeller 1/12/70 4:00 p.m. R: I got a letter from about the report he prepared for you. He's hald himself available in case you did want anything in the near future. The report on Latin America. He needs a little guidance as to whether he should go ahead. K: I'll get back to you by the end of this week. We are studying it with greatest care. It's a tricky problem - - it's got to be done delicately. R: I know, that will be okay. Other thing: I understand you got a letter from Violet. I'm curious whether it claridied things. K: I thought this was the letter that No it made the same point. R: Is this the letter to Crobby? K: Yes. I'd be glad to see Violet. It's clear that he is okay, but he gave us to understand he was doing it in relation to Pompidou, and I don't think he was. He is knowledgable and reliable, but he misled us. I get 2 types of hate mail a day: one saying get out of Vietnam, never mind what happens and two saying you god-damned bastards, why don't you protect the Jews. R: I have no doubt that you did the right thing. K: If we must stand, it's better to stand for something different from the Esraelis. We are not going to back off of this. R: Good. Glad to head it. K: I appreciate what you are doing. I don't doubt that you are getting a lot of heat. R: Yes, and it's holding up rather than subsiding. K: Really? R: But we're all knuckled under and we're taking the party line, which only confirms the opposite view. K: They're very short-sighted. I don't think we have anything to be ashamed of. R: Howare you otherwise? K: Okay. R: I had a nice visit with Fred Beegsten. That's comign quite well.
