He feels this would be\na\ndomestic (?) time to say that people who fight in VN will be volunteers. I don't\nknow if the numbers will work.\nK: No, we have looked into that.\nS: He has a flood of mail and the numbers are bothering him about slippage.\nIt would show understanding. He felt coperate revulsion about Southeast Asua\nis greater than he thought. I have had a philosophic talk with him.\nK: If society is so weak ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?\n/\nS: Volunteers plus regulars are not enough?\nK: No. We have looked at it aarefully. It's physically impossible. It's not\na policy choice. We just cannot do it. Not befor e next year.\nS: He said int he future it won't have a feeling of relating.\nK: Not for the Next rest of the year.\nS: I am startled. I don't share his feeling but --\nK: Morevoer, I expect Buckley to fight that sort of thing. Our business elite\nis just maddening. They have no politi cal sense.\nS: All during the '30's they armed Japan.\nK: If we let the students drive us out the business people will be thier next\nvictims.\nSL That's where they will turn?\nK: We are gaining but the students want to destroy the society.\nS: I just wanted you to know.\nK: Bill is gallant and he supports the Adminsi tration, I know."
