TELCON Amb. Freeman/Kissinger 11:08 a, m. 7/7/70 K: Your intelligence service is -- Have you got my new office bugged too? I said today that I must see you. F: I have a message from the PM about the message from the President, He was greatly pleased and would like to accept it and will probably decide in the future. K: Does he prefer Washington? F: I think there might be some advantage for S. Clemente. It's possible that with the European negotiations just starting that a full dress visit with press out there might be -- less full dress. If the President thinks S. Clemente is okay he might want it there, K: Then the safe periods -- Aug. 20 - Sept. 8 and maybe July 24 - Aug. 2, The first date is firm but the second is uncertain. F: He would come wherever the President wanted, But I mentioned you suggested S. Clemente, K: If what matters to him is having a good talk then a lot is to be said for S, Clemente, But for sympolism, Washington is better. F: He may feel that a good talk is better then symbolism. I am going back for consultations the weekend after next. Could we meet before that? I know how busy you are. K: I always like to see you. F: Shall I put our secretaries together? K: Maybe lunch would be good. F: This would suit me, I would like to have you but timewise it may be better there for you, K: Let me make a suggestion to you. Maybe lunch early next week. I would like to see you for 10 mins, before the wee kend. F: I am going away after lunch on Friday. K: I will have my secretary call you. We will try tomorrow evening.
