K: I just wanted to tell you I have lx the uninscribed version of the book and it's
excellent.
R: I will send you an inscribed one.
K: It's a better production then ours. I like the print better. and the maps and
charts. And documents. I haven't seen a Index.
R: On the front it does. Quite a turn out in the Sen. -- 67 out of 80. A little
room off the Sen. floor. Mansfield and Scott made good statements and then
told the press it was a good performance.
K: That's good and useful for the Adminsitration.
R: Very successful. Hubert Humphrey said he was sorry he said what he did.
K: On M.E.
R: All M. E.
K:
to get anything and that's where we have greatest trouble in many
ways.
R: Could not have gone better. All candidates were there except McGovern.
K: That sounds terrific. Did you hear that McGovern has been going around
asking people if they want to hear a Polish joke and when they say yes he
says, Muskie.
R: Jesus, what taste! How our his spirtis?
K: Pretty good. Usually my experience is that there's a withdrawal period.
R: Laos and SST both. It's a tough period.
K: I told him in passing we cleared a telegram on the meeting next week and
he feels we shouldn't go to the meeting. It's not a big deal. A show of strength
might not be a bad idea.
