S. Read text of message to be sent to General Secretary -
QTE I am pleased to be able to report to you that, as the
result of an offer of our good offices to the Israelis and Egyptians,
the two warring sides have agreed to meet together today under UNTSO
auspiees. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the military
aspects regarding implementing of the United Nations Security Council
Resolutions 338 and 339.
At our urging , the Government of Israel has agreed to
permit a convoy of non-military supplies to pass through its lines,
under United Nations and Red Cross auspices to reach the Egyptian
Third Army today.
I fervently hope we will continue to work closely and
cooperatively to the achievement of a true ceasefire; a ceasefire that will
make it possible for the warring parties, with our joint help, to arrive
at a just settlement and a lasting peace in the Middle East.
I will inform you immediately as further developments occur. UNQTE.
