TELECON
Mr. Vest/Sec. Kissinger
March 6, 1974
2:45
K: If you get any question -- the German foreign office has now
made a statement saying they discussed it with me -- just say we stand
by our statement.
V: Right, ok sir.
K: We are not going into any
V: Ok, I will. They tried to raise the question of whether anybody
had been in to call here and I stayed away from that as well.
K: Why?
V: Because I didn't have the facts at the time.
K: Yes, but why don't you have the facts.
V: I only learned afterwards that Von Staden had been in.
K: Yes, but that is the sort of thing you should get before.
V: I have since passed this on
K: But that makes it again too important. You should have said
Von Staden was in because he was going back for a regular review.
V: Ok, sir. However, I think it is his officials who let it out that he
was coming.
K: So, it is even less excusable that we didn't knowl
V: Ok, fine.
K: ok.
