Mulliken - page 2 K: If we would just leave out the phrase, our records still look good. That looks sort of self serving. M: Yes. believes K: Why don't you just say, he apparently or he believes the record still looks good. M: CK. K: You see what I mean ? M: I see it. Now, we're talking earlier - this is another sentence - another paragraph rather. About various types of negotiations. I'll read the whole paragraph if you like, maybe that makes more sense to you. It's short. K: Go ahead. M: Once specifically, in so far as some Asians are concerned, is Kissinger's close identification with the present PT(?) regime. The Secretary considers the Chinese the best negotiations he has seen. Quote, they said what they mean and they stick to it, while the Russians are tough and the French difficult but with style enquote. And then it goes on to talk about K: Can you take out the while? M: The while. K: Just say the Russians are tough. M: Yes, sure. K: You see then it's no contrast. M: They had brutal in there, I had to take that out. Yes sure, OK. That's fine. Now what we need are two quotes that we don't have. One is a quote about Sadat. We have a very full quote about Sadat being nice about you and great stateman, strategist, etc. The main thing I have on Sadat, I don't know why we only have that, is that he's a man who can give orders and is in charge. This is in a discussion with the difficults in Damascus and in Jerusalem. Is there something you'd like to say. K: No you can say Sadat is a man of vision. Who said of course, and stuck to it against enormous difficulty. M: That's good. CK, that's fine. In the Middle East, Jerry, who is moving
