TELECON General Scowcroft/Secretary Kissinger June 21, 1974 12:07 PM K: Brent, our advance party in Moscow claims that they have no instructions to go to the Crimea, that they want to go to the (Caucuses) and the Russians are in a panic. S: Oh, that cannot be true, that's absurd. As a matter of fact I just sent them a cable. K: OK, just get them straightened out, that I had agreed to the Crimea. Where in the Crimea I don't give a damn about. S: What I heard was that they're claiming that you agreed to Yalta. K: No. I didn't agree to anything in particular, but what Dobrynin now says is that Brezhnev wants him to stay at the place that he's got which happens to be in Yalta. S: That's right. K: Well, that's a PR question; to me it makes no difference. S: Well, I think we ought to try to resistent it, don't you? K: Well, yes, but we can't shift it to the Caucuses. S: Oh, of course not. That was never intended. K: OK. S: No, my cable X would suggest as an alternative. the K: OK. We can try xx/crucifix in there. OK. S: I'm talking to Dinitz now. END
