TELCON
Ambassador Dobrynin/Mr. Kissinger
8:50 p.m., March 8, 1972
D:
We also celebrated second week after today or tomorrow. We
celebrated our 30th anniversary of our marriage, my wife and I.
K:
Isn't that terrific; isn't that terrific!
D:
That's why
K:
That's terrific! I was thinking of getting the FBI to look for you.
D:
30 years is something.
K:
Isn't that terrific !
That's more than I will ever make in a marriage.
D:
Got a message for the Ambassador?
K:
What I was going to ask you about has been overcome by events.
The President had been thinking of having a press conference
unscheduled tomorrow. On that basis, he wondered whether you
would object if he gave the date for the start of the visit?
D:
The date?
K:
It doesn't make any difference now because he has cancelled it --
the press conference. If at the press conference he could say
the visit would start on May 22?
D:
I see no specific objection.
K:
The point is there is no press conference tomorrow.
D:
It doesn't make any difference to us.
K:
The thing is, just ask them informally next week. If you could
let me have an answer by next week.
D:
I
will check tomorrow. He has not
K:
He has cancelled.
D:
I will ask them.
K:
There is no hurry about it now.
