TELCON (Tape) The President/Mr. Kissinger Page 3 P: And they will squeal and squirm. K: No question about that and I am confident that Abrams is going to do the right thing. P: Abrams has just got to be told to do the right thing. K: Well, I've seen the cable that went out to him, Mr. President. I made sure this time that there wasn't going to be any slip and we put in this cable nobody gives a damn about how many helicopter sorties they fly, we want to get an overall, confident appraisal and I am sure he will do it. P: Right. K: And I also talked to Bill on the other operation just to make absolutely sure and he was aware of it. P: Understood. K: And he is relaxed about it. And I have checked with all the public information people and I've checked with Moorer and everybody else. P: The public information people, all of them who have the opportunity should just stonewall it. I don't want Ziegler to say anything. K: Oh, no. P: I don't want him to say a damn word. K: On the second operation or on anything. P: No, no. Ziegler should say nothing about the reports, about the retreat and all that sort of thing -- he should say not a goddamn word, he's not available for anything. He knows nothing about it anyway. K: Exactly. P: But on the other hand, Henkin should. Let the Pentagon step up to this. K: That's right. Well, the Pentagon -- that's the advantage of the Abrams briefing, they can refer to that.
