K : And to improve their general situation.
P : Yeah. You know, one thing Moorer pointed out. He
said that there's never been
they've never had so many
of their people concentrated i n in as limited an area in
the whole war. And as I pointed out to him, I said well that's
a hell of an opportunity for our air, istn't it. And it is.
K : Right.
P :
We must be just punishing them like hell
K:
on they must be taking
B : so Sixty B-52 or whatever it was strikes yesterday
and in the night. He said the tactical air, gunships, helos,
and the rest. Jesus Christ, I mean these people have got to
be taking a hell of a beating.

K : on we are using) the best part of those regiments they've
got there. They're not going to do any fighting the rest of
this year. It's one of those battles Mr. President that one
leads about where both sides are exhausted, the other side just
is hanging in there a little longer but basically if they were
American trooms there they would be breaking now.
P :
If we had American troops there
K :
I mean if we had American troops there the other side
would be breaking now.
P: Yeah if we had American troops what you'd do is to
whin the division in behind them and go in a knock the damn
hing off.
K : Exactly.
P: This may be the opportunity of the war.
K: oh exactly, but I think they are taking a fearful beating.
P: My view is though, I really think more and more on balance
even though getting out is going to be a problem, on balance we're
better to get out and have the damn thing off television. And
then we're
cuase it isn't
even their staying in
wouldn't change anything in terms of what our offer would be
or
the rest. I think that the kind of a beating we're giving them
is not going to be
they can claim victory; certainly South
Vietnam will claim victory and that's that.
