SIXTEENTH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL AZALEA FESTIVAL
NORFOLK, VIRGINIA
SATURDAY, APRIL 26, 1969
THE PRESIDENT:
At 1:25 p.m. you will board your helicopter at Camp David
and fly to Martinsburg, West Virginia, arriving at 1:42 p. m. There
you will be joined by the First Lady. You will then transfer to
Air Force I arriving at Norfolk Municipal Airport at 2:30 p. m.
You and Mrs. Nixon will depart the airport by motorcade
arriving at the Azalea Gardens at approximately 2:35 p. m. The
motorcade will stop first to allow Mrs. Nixon to be escorted to her
place in the VIP section and then will proceed a short distance to a
point behind the stage which will be hidden from public view. You will
join Miss Tricia Nixon and her attendants at this time.
At approximately 2:45 p. m. Ruffles and Flourishes and
"Hail to the Chief" will be played. This signals the entrance of the
Queen and her Court. You will be to your daughter's left and her
escort, Lt. Robert Nichol, USN, will be to her right.
You enter by climbing several steps and then proceed to. the
raised platform maintaining the same positions.
The National Anthem will be played and at its conclusion you
will pause while the Color Guard takes up position behind you. An
announcer will then announce that you will crown the Queen. At this
point you should ask the crown bearer, Miss Dana Dawson, for the
crown. She will be directly in front of you and will turn around to
present you with it.
