Helms, called me the other day to discuss the problems of the motion picture industry. Mr. Helms himself is a union member of LATSE Local 728, and of course works all the time with labor people. He says that the situation of the producing companies making pictures . . # overseas has created a very serious job problem in California within X X File: the various unions involved in motion picture production. He sent me the attached chart which shows the trend in studio electricians' employ- ment in Southern California, and it is rather shocking. date He further points out that many members of the unions in foreign H (Helms) countries where these pictures are being produced are Communists -- a much higher proportion than in the United States.
