MEMORANDUM

THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
MEMORANDUM FOR: BRYCE HARLOW
FROM: TOM CHARLES HUSTON
APRIL 11, 1969
Willard Edwards tells me that the memo which he used
to break up the Ted Kennedy trip with his column on Thursday
morning had been circulating for three weeks among the Republican
members of the Kennedy subcommittee and that he came upon it
quite by accident.
Do you think it might be possible to ask the Republican
Senators who have occasion to work with Kennedy to keep an eye
out for this sort of thing? Edwards says he received many
congratulatory calls from other members of the working press
corps who thought the embarrassment caused to Teddy was quite
humorous. He also says that Teddy doesn't yet inspire the same
awe and respect among the press people as his brothers did, and
we can safely open up on him. If we wait, however, and he keeps
up his full scale campaign, he may lock up the press 50 vie can't
hit him with immunity.
