THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
September 8, 1972
MEMORANDUM FOR JOHN EHRLICHMAN
FROM:
ED HARPER Ed
SUBJECT:
A Voice from the Past
Substituting for you, I gave a talk at the Federal Executive
Institute on September 5th. At that meeting, I met Mr. Carlton
("Bing") Bingham who asked me to give you his special regards.
x
He tells me that the two of you were together at Camp Josepo
in California, that the two of you worked together on your life-
saving merit badges, and that you inducted him into the Order
of the Arrow.
Bingham is now a Director of the AEC lab at New Brunswick,
New Jersey.
Being a former Boy Scout myself, I had to assure Bingham I
would relay his regards to you, Scout's Honor!

Dear Pete:
I have just learned that you are starting your first year
in law school at Stanford. I want to take this oppor-
tunity to wish you the very best in the months ahead.
I have often told reporters that of all the challenges
I have had to meet during my life, the toughest THIS
getting through the first year in law achool. Cn the
other hand, the discipline which was instilled in me
by professors at Duite thirty-eight years ago, has
stood me in good stend since that time in dealing
with the major problems with which I have been con-
fronted in both toy public and private Wic.
Knowing both your mother and your father, I am
confident you will meet this test with flying colors.
With best wishes,
Sincerely,
RICHARD NIKON

466-11-1/ EHRLICHMAN, JOHN D.
FOR JOHN CAMPBELL
During the President's recent trip to Wilkes-Barre,
Pennsylvania, he made an unscheduled visit to a
church where a young couple was being married.
During the visit he hit Ehrlichman for $20 to drop in
the poor box.
Your ideas as to how Mr. Ehrlichman can be reim-
bursed for this unexpected drain on his finances
would be most appreciated.

Dear John:
Many thanks for being with US on Tuesday. Your appearance
meant a great deal and certainly was one of the highlights of
the day. It was most appreciated by all of US.
Please accept my apologies for the delay of your presentation.
Those "three-minute" greetings were certainly prolonged!
Best personal regards.
Sincerely,
Tom

MEMORANDUM FOR:

FROM:

P
The Carpenters will be making a 1-night appearance
in Seattle this Friday, October 6, at the Opera House.
As you may know, they have recently indicated that
they publicly support the President's re-election.
I recommend that John and his wife make an appearance
at the Carpenters Show on Friday night and then go
back stage for a photo opportunity. The Seattle
press should be alerted.
The objective of all of this is that we should have
some Seattle stories with The Carpenters saying how
much they support the President. I will be happy to
set it up if you give me a go on it.
