Campus Disorders
Bend group
In accordance with your request, I have communicated with
university professors at many institutions across the country, and
I have received from them very thoughtful analyses of the problem
of disorder in our colleges. There is much greater agreement
among these professors than I would have supposed.
First, they generally agree:
(1) That a small, nationally organized, group of protestors,
usually associated with SDS, are behind the demonstrations;
(2) That this small group is bent on the destruction of the
university (and other institutions) rather than reform;
(3) That this group owes much, if not most, of the success
it has achieved to the widespread support of other students and
faculty members. This support comes on specific issues, some
of which are peculiar to the local campus and some of which are
