Meeting with Senator George Murphy

I. PURPOSE: To thank George Murphy for his support and wish him
all success as he leaves Senate.
II. PARTICIPANTS AND BACKGROUND:
A. Participants: The President and Senator George Murphy.
B. Background: Senator Murphy requested this meeting before
he leaves the Senate.
III. RECOMMENDED TALKING POINTS:
A. Murphy in requesting appointment said he wanted to discuss:
1. His personal plans, and
2. Political matters in California.
B. Murphy, when asked about his plans, said he was thinking of
going into the Public Relations business -- one that he had
really been in all his life -- and work out of California and
Washington, D. C.
C.
He could bring up his continuing belief that Frances Knight,
Director, Passport Office, is being shunted aside and should
be given more honor and a higher position in State.
