(Huebner) JK December 17, 1970 SUGGESTED REMARKS: INTRODUCTION OF DAVID FROST Background: David Frost is the son of a Methodist minister. He has been a primary school teacher, a fine soccer player (he turned down a professional contract to continue his studies) and a student at Cambridge. He is also a best selling author and has served -- in England -- as a TV commentator on major events such as elections. He has been awarded the Order of the British Empire. This is the second night in a row that we honor a distinguished Englishman at the White House. As far as British-American relations are concerned, we can surely say "this is the week that was. rr ("That Was The Week That Was" was Frost's first U. S. television show.) David Frost says that his goal on his television show is "to help people be themselves. 11 As one who has appeared on a TV special with him, I can say that he succeeds very well in meeting that goal. And I know a number of government officials who are here tonight and who also have been interviewed on his show will agree with me (Agnew, Volpe, Klein, Finch). But tonight we can turn the tables on him. We are the hosts and he is the guest. I hope we can make him feel as "at home" in the White House as he has made all of us feel on his television program. Some critics say that Mr. Frost's success in the art of conver- sation comes from the fact that he knows how to listen! What an important lesson for all of us.
