Flanigan Pas I. PURPOSE To convey to conference participants your interest in the nation's trade balance and the importance of the nation's businessmen in improving export performance. II. BACKGROUND, PARTICIPANTS & PRESS PLAN A. Background: You will open the conference and announce the creation of the President's Export Council (PEC) and the President's Interagency Committee on Export Expansion. Dent, Flanigan, Shultz, Rush and Eberle will follow you and address some portion of the nation's current trade problems, including proposed solutions. Mr. Perry Wilson, who you will appoint Vice Chairman of the PEC, will provide "A Businessman's View of Export Expansion". Dent will conclude by presenting three Presidential "E" Export Awards. Note: A reception at 4:30 p.m. in the State Dining Room will follow the conference. You are not expected to attend the reception. B. Participants: Includes 176 business leaders, including chairmen of the board, presidents and executive vice presidents, of the nation's leading corporations. C. Press Plan: Full press coverage. III.
