THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN NEWS SUMMARY April #, 1972 (Tuesday nets, wires, mags, columns) Gloomy reports from Vietnam and the uncertainty of the Wisconsin primary were the only 2 major stories. The NVA invasion, variously described as bogged down or still advancing despite the US air raids, led all nets with reports from 8-10 minutes. And Wisconsin racked up over 11 minutes on CBS. (Separate primary report with today's summary. ) Other major stories on the overwithholding problem; the interest of most Catholics in N. Ireland for peace; US recognition of Bangladesh where Sino-Soviet interests are clashing and the fans' disdain for the baseball strike. INDOCHINA Reasoner led by saying that the enemy offensive advanced despite heavy US air attacks from our entire B-52 fleet plus other aircraft. CBS film of the massive US air counter- offensive now underway in spite of imperfect weather. An officer told of NVA missiles and the NVA streaming down the road and beaches by the tons of thousands. CBS noted a number of US planes are down; there are refugees by the thousands and profiteering automobile owners charging $36 for 32 mile evacuation rides. US officials say NVN goals are political and psychological, noted ABC's man in Quang Tri. Scenes of refugees leaving QT and of ARVN reinforcements. Even if invasion stopped now, said ABC, NVN would have achieved much by showing it
