The major stories:
-- 4-5 minutes very good film of RN on sidewalk w/crowds and
w/Eur. leaders on both nets. Rites led NBC; #4 on CBS. Both noted
change in plans to stay over, Brokaw calling it a "surprise", given
earlier WH view that this wasn't appropriate time for such talks
Pierpoint said the "mini-summits" are build-up to planned June
summittand while the brief sessions don't really accomplish much,
they give RN, in deep trouble w/Wgate and tax troubles, a chance
to show himself as a world leader. And while RN may not achieve
his "year of Europe", said Pierpoint, he certainly is able to telescope
lots of diplomatic politicking into the long weekend

"Potentially explosive [Kalmbach] testimony led CBS w/Schorr
saying the atty's report to Ervin that some of the Hughes money given
Rebozo went to RMW and Don Nixon stands in "direct conflict" w/what
Bebe, Rose and RN have said. Schorr said Kalmbach told Rebozo
to tell IRS the truth about the money's use but Rebozo "apparently did
otherwise. 11 No comment from WH, RMW, Don Nixon or Rebozo,

CBS followed w/note
of incorrect RN deduction in 168 for his VP papers AP report that
restrictions on their use were improper. But statute of limitations
has run out
And #3 on CBS was Chapin as he told of celebrating
Fri nite given that week started w/4 counts, but only 1 1/2 are left
and he has full confidence he'll be found innocent when appeal is com-
pleted. He also expressed respect for way prosecution treated himas
as a man, the substance of the charges aside.
