2 RN/FRANCE UPI leads: "RN returned from Paris after breakfasting on caviar and Vodka w/Soviet Pres. Podgorny and agreeing w/him that positive results could be expected from forthcoming summit. During 38-hr. stay, RN attended memorial Mass for Pompi, held talks w/7 world leaders and 3 times strolled thru the streets, smiling and shaking hands w/wildly applauding Frenchmen. 11 UPI leads: "RN returned from Paris optimistic summit in Moscow in late June would produce substantial agreement on limiting offensive nuclear weapons 11 Nets noted Haig said both sides are optimistic and he expects positive SALT results. AP leads: "RN returned from a sudden summit in Paris, his aides saying the world leaders he met still view him as a key force in quest for global stability. Especially bolstered, according to WH, were hopes for trip to USSR, w/some progress already recorded on nuclear controls. 11 AP's Freed says "it was apparent Admin was trying to indicate RN's impt. role in world affairs as a buttress against moves for impchmnt. 11 would provide any substance to support claim of AP notes neither AH nor RZ/expected major accomplishments. AH/RZ insisted RN's meetings were initiated by the other countries. But AP notes sources in US diplomatic community in Paris as well as some foreign embassies indicated RN took opportunity to arrange the sessions himself. NBC clip opened as RN left AFI and boarded chopper for CD. RN pledged to return "as soon as I have a good excuse I love Paris. 11 ABC film included that RN remark as he mingled w/crowds 1 final time, Jarriel said WH emphasizes forward movement was made, but no major agreements reached.
