The major stories:
"In trial w/out precedent in US history, ex-RN cabinet members
JNM and Maurice Stans were found innocent of all charges they
used their power to defraud USG while raising secret political
campaign funds. 11 Thus leads UPI on story receiving half the total
time on both Sun nets. CBS led with and othersnoted that "RN is
very pleased for them and their families. 11 And CBS noted 1 high
Admin official said verdict discredited Dean. "Verdict by implica-
tion makes him a liar, which makes one wonder how many other
lies he's told, 11 said the official. ABC also emphasized WH view
of setback to Dean.
Graham of CBS said verdict wasn't good news for Spec. Pros. force
given W'gate coverup case is on same type of charges and has
same key witness. Verdict showed JNM can be convincing on
his own behalf, said Graham, and at least 1 jury was persuaded
to believe him over Dean.
On CBS, Richardson said from point
of view of RN and those who feel cases are being pressed w/out a
strong base, the verdict is a "victory.

foreman said they saw no reason for JNM/Stans to lie; she couldn't
say the same for Dean
And on NBC, a juror flatly said he
didn't believe Dean; Dean only made an accusation

CBS noted RN has made decision to turn over material in response
to subpoena of Judiciary. CBS also noted RN may discuss W'gate
Mon nite on TV. AH was further quoted as saying RN will give the
complete story of his actions
RN is seriously considering
letting the Judiciary leaders listen to the tapes, reports Trib's
Beckman. And AP says it's possible WH will suggest authentication
by a "neutral party. 11 Sun's Pepper says, failed however, that efforts by
Judiciary GOP "to help RN help himself"/as WH rejected working
out a mutual way to screen out irrelevancies.
