At this point, Barry with his customary eloquence told the assembed
legislators, before leaving for Carl Hayden's eulogy, that they ought
to take this proposal and, with regard to the Democratic doves, " shove
it down their throats and then shove it up the other end until it meets
someplace."
Both houses were working, said the leaders, on resolutions in support of
the proposals.
Said the President, "Last night totally answers the honest critic. 11 This
is as far as we can go; and "it goes further than many think we ought to
go."
Then came a Shultz briefing on the Budget and the deficits, making an
interesting point, that there "is not a single dollar spent, which Congress
does not authorize spent. 11
