writing a letter to the President is proving embarrassing for us
with many conservative groups.
- Failure to make progress on Presidential pardon for Episcopalian
priests who helped Cuban refugees will give us trouble with church
leaders and other moderate denomination heirarchy.

- Roman Catholic endorsement of our tuition tax credit bill, after collapse
of their liberal staff opposition, solidifies support for our bill
with all major supporters of tuition tax credits. Particularly significan
was the National Conference of Catholic Bishops commendation for the
strong anti-discrimination language in our draft bill.

- Interview with Lynn Rosellini of New York Times on conservatives
in the Administration.
- National Prayer Summit near Louisville, Kentucky, where prayer
leaders from across the country gathered to pray for the President
and the nation.
RED FLAGS
- National Right to Work Committee about to launch attack on
Solicitor General Rex Lee calling for his resignation or dismissal
because he recommended Supreme Court not review Appeals Court
decision which has the effect of exempting federal enclaves from
state right to work laws.
- Growing concern among conservative organization leaders at failure
of the Administration to appoint many top New Right leaders to
significant advisory committee positions.
MISCELLANEOUS
- Well organized effort in behalf of the President's school prayer
amendment has begun, led by religious and conservative movement leaders.
- Supporters of tuition tax credits are highly pleased with current draft

MET WITH A GROUP OF LEADERS FROM 9 DIFFERENT DENOMINATIONS FROM ACROSS
THE COUNTRY organized by World Fellowship Ministry Foundation. Dr. James
E. "Johnny" Johnson is Director and arranged the meeting. Bill Barr of
OPD briefed these leaders and answered their questions about the President's
proposed voluntary prayer in school amendment. Many of these religious
leaders arrived skeptical but the meeting developed into almost a rally
ehalf of the amendment. Rev. Jerry Moore, Republican member of the
C. City Council, announced his intention, for instance, of taking steps
to have his National Baptist Conference endorse the amendment.
At 4:00 p.m. worked with this group on a televised panel discussion for
Johnson's "From Washington with Love" program. Topic was voluntary school
prayer amendment, Taped at Pentagone City Quality Inn.

- National Right to Work Committee frustrated at failure of the
administration to ask the Supreme Court to hear appeal of U. S.
Court of Appeals decision which would exempt federal enclaves
from application of state Right to Work laws. We could miss a
a good thing here.
