PRESERVATION COPY
: The Honorable Ronald Reagan
Date : March 10, 1969
Subject: March 11, 1969
@ 3:30 p.m.
From : Robert J. Keyes
SUBJECT: Picture with Fannie Lyle presenting the first
two tickets to the premier of "OLIVER" to
Ronald Reagan which will kick off a drive to
raise $50,000 to operate the Glen Elder-Elder
Creek Child Care Center in Sacramento.
(Fannie Lyle is the Public Information Officer
for the Sacramento Area Economic Opportunity
Council, who is spearheading the drive.)
The Center will serve basically underprivileged children in
the aforementioned area.
The Glen Eldor-Elder Creek Child Care Center project was
originally started in 1966 by the Glen Elder Improvement
Association (a neighborhood council). Zoning and a lack
of commercial property caused numerous delays. All prior
hurdles have been alleviated. The building presently
occupied was completed last December and accommodates 35
children. However, paving, sidewalk and the play area
construction is not yet completed. The center also lacks
appropriate funds to provide an adequate staff.
The money raised during this campaign will go toward rent
on the building and land, utilities, food, health and dental
services for the children enrolled in the program, accounting
and auditing, insurance, playground equipment, fencing, poving,
etc., and for additional staff to meet the criteria as previously
outlined.
